Water Quality Management

Assisted in the Twinning between the Italian Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt, on “Water Quality Management”. Activities included:

(a) analysis of the regulatory framework on water pollution and relevant enforcement and data management system in place in Egypt;

(b) legal and institutional gap analysis of Egyptian legislation on water quality and enforcement system against EU acquis;

(c) recommendations for improvement of the relevant Egyptian primary and secondary legislation on water quality and enforcement system with reference to the whole regulatory chain (planning, permitting, controlling and reporting);

(c) design of an Integrated Water Management Plan in Lake Nasser, according with the European Water Framework Directive;

(d) organization of training sessions and workshops to present findings of the legal and institutional gap analysis on water quality legislation and recommendations for its improvement. Workshops were also aimed at sharing knowledge of the best enforcement practices in place in Europe to ensure the effective implementation of water quality legislation.
